Becoming a good therapist is a process. Graduate school gives us the foundation, licensure gives us the framework, and experience gives us the opportunity to keep developing, but none of these things alone makes someone an excellent clinician. The therapists we become are shaped through the relationships, challenges, mentorship, and opportunities for reflection that accompany us throughout our careers.
At The Station, we believe clinicians deserve the same kind of thoughtful support that we hope to provide to our clients. My own development as a therapist was profoundly shaped by the supervisors and mentors who supported me when I needed reassurance, challenged me when I needed a different perspective, and helped me recognize capacities in myself that I had not yet learned to see. Their investment in my development did more than help me meet the requirements of training. It helped me become both the person and clinician I wanted to be.
We believe the same is true for every clinician. Nobody begins their career as a fully formed therapist, and we do not expect them to. Clinical competence develops through practice, reflection, curiosity, consultation, and relationships with people who are willing to both encourage us and challenge us. Good supervision creates space for all of this: a place where clinicians can examine their work honestly, identify blind spots, strengthen their clinical judgment, and gradually develop the confidence and autonomy to trust themselves.
This is the philosophy behind person-centered supervision at The Station. We approach supervision as an investment in the person and professional the clinician is becoming, not simply as a requirement to satisfy a licensing board. Our goal is to provide thoughtful, integrative supervision that meets clinicians where they are, helps them build on their strengths, and gives them the support they need to continue growing into the kind of therapist they want to become.

Carol is a licensed supervisor who has worked with early career clinicians in all disciplines. She is certified as a supervisor for LCMHC's in North Carolina and LPC's in Michigan.
